Hopefully will be open again later this month - 25 months afer the February earthquake.
Damaged in the earthquakes, now with more bends and not level as it was before. Selected for Explore. #306 12/05/13

Growing in a red zone vacant section in Wetlands Grove, Pacific Park.
Went for a drive down to South New Brighton/Southshore after work today to see what interesting birds I could find on the Estuary (godwits, skuas, terns etc), but passing Jellico Street, I saw this. T-Rex the seismic survey truck from the University of Texas that is visiting the city (first time out of USA). Weighs 30 tonne and from the marks o...
A week ago this building was intact, now partially demolished. Will be an empty site in a week or two.
Moving from the Bexley "Red Zone" to?
When this building was first brought on site I spent a few hours removing the tape/paper that had been covering every window.
Across the river were a row of several houses - all gone now. That side of the river is "Red Zone" and will be devoid of houses soon. #4077
The old (or is that the new) Inland Revenue Department (IRD) building on the corner of Madras and Cashel Streets in central Christchurch. Built in 2006/07 on the site of the former Farmers department store (itself badly damaged by fire), it was just a few years old when the earthquake of February 2011 struck, and subsequent quakes (all through 2...
Work is continuing on the earthquake damaged South New Brighton bridge. Avon River to the left, Avon-Heathcote Estuary the other side of the bridge.
A suburban "red zone" house from Velsheda Street (#11), Pacific Park, is finally cut in half and loaded ready for transport out and a future life somewhere else in the South Island, whether it be close by or way down south in Gore or Clinton (where a few have gone already). The house has been stripped of it's bricks and jacked up for over four m...

Still awaiting a repair, but with so many bridges closed or partially closed we are lucky this one had what maybe minor damage.
Only it is worse this time! As from Wednesday I won't have car access to the property, nor the street, nor one of the neighbouring streets - for a month at least! A second attempt to do a sewer repair after the earthquakes - yes I know they were 3 to 2½ years ago!
The South New Brighton Domain jetty into the Avon-Heathcote Estuary. A new jetty replaced an older one about 6-8 years ago, then the earthquakes happened! Before the earthquakes it was straight and level and open!
Many roads are closed all over eastern Christchurch as infra-structure repairs are carried out, whether it be water supplies, sewer repairs (as is the case here) or general road repairs, In just over two weeks it will be three years since the first earthquake happened (4th September 2010) and in five days time it is 2½ years since the big quake...
The Mack tractor unit with "half a house" ready to depart in the middle of the night, when the roads are quiet. But where is this house heading too?
rubble from earthquake at Papanui Corner
Full of weeds after nearly two years of neglect. First time I have been in Victoria Square in over two years.
Nearly 80 40 foot containers (most two high) protect Wakefield Avenue in Sumner from further rock falls. Behind these (to the left) are houses, church, bowling club, RSA (Returned Servicemens Association) and other community buildings that have been isolated now for nearly two years now. On the right upper third boundary (just behind two stand a...

Haha! This is the day before Mainzeal (see sign on fence at left) announced they had gone into receivership owing millions to the banks and sub-contractors like Smiths whose equipment is here.

Football turf has now gone and the area fenced off again.
Verandah roof of former Central Library on left. Rubble is from the former Farmers building and carpark.
