There is public criticism that the trip take place at this time because of ongoing problems with the council and earthquake recovery. The council received a letter from International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) on 30 May 2013. The letter says that the Council has until 28 June 2013 to improve its processes or it will be stripped of its accreditation as a building consent authority.
