Picking up the fence posts: farming in Waiau after the quake

When the magnitude-7.8 earthquake shook North Canterbury nearly three years ago, a 3.5-metre high wall of earth formed on Dave and Rebekah Kelly's sheep and beef station. The 'Wall of Waiau' – as it's now known – sits on a faultline that cuts across a scenic hillside.

A walkway from Gloucester Street to the Square was opened up for a few days to allow the public a closer look at the cathedral.

The occupants would have had strict instructions to stay out as the property is too dangerous to enter in case there is another earthquake or big aftershock".
