Aftermath of September 4th Earthquake in Canterbury. Shops on Colombo Street in Christchurch - damaged in earthquake and then partially demolished to reduce risk from unstable materials which might otherwise be dislodged in strong winds or subsequent aftershocks. The 1590 aftershocks recorded to date have continued to cause further damage.

Cunningham House at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens is still closed due to earthquake damage. I wonder if it will ever re-open or suffer the demolition fate many other iconic structures in Christchurch have.
A bit of the now demolished QEII (Queen Elizabeth II) Park running track in the "Gap Filler" on the old Deka site in New Brighton (last occupied by a charity barn before a major fire and subsequent demolition).

Shot from up Hunstbury Hill with a 600mm f/4 on a very grey morning. 8am demolition. The guy behind me only looked up when the sounds of the explosion reahed us and the building was half way down!

I retuned three hours later to see what progress had been made and it was GONE! See next photo. Damage to complex was from the 22/02/20011 earthquake.
