The Asko Design store on Victoria Street has been given a yellow sticker. This was a building assessment system used following the February earthquake and indicates that this building has limited access and needs further evaluation.

The octagonal section on the corner of the building was the part occupied by Plato Creative from March 2008 to November 2009. Although designed to house a book depot, this section was used as the principal's office while Christchurch Normal School was operating from the building.

It was a way of creating a city of lights on the sites of demolished buildings in the earthquake devastated red zone. 350 architecture and design students from all around New Zealand created and constructed 16 pop up spaces".
The Church of the Good Shepherd (Philips Street) is a fine example of High Victorian Gothic architecture and was designed by Benjamin Woolfield Mountfort in 1884. It has suffered some major damage during 6.3 quake that hit Christchurch 22 February 2011.
