Monsters in the Rafters
You have no right to do this.
Build me up
Just to break me down.
I wonder how you feel
As I lie here alone.
Fighting the monsters In my mind.
Beyond the rafters
Of the unknown.

Yes, it was a joke. The tours, that is, not the yard filled with earthquake-caused sand volcanos. They were very real. You can see one covering the driveway in this photo.
The signs read as follows.
"Tours run 1/2 hourly.
$5.25 admission.
Eftpos unavailable."
"If you think this is bad... you should see the back!"
The unforgettable beauty of lavender
Occurs in both the earth
As well as part of the many changing
Shades of the daily heavens on high.
Is quickly there, and then is gone.
Light violet, lavender,
How unique is its special glow,
Colored in nature in light lilac,
Amethyst, and airy, purple indigo.
From a poem by Gil Saenz

Some of the recent aftershocks located around Banks Peninsula since the 7.1 earthquake have resulted in renewed hot springs activity with the distinct sulphurous smells being the result of deep seated water reaching the surface. Known hot springs are located at Motukarara, Rapaki Bay, Heathcote Valley, and Purau.

A truck carries a house to a new position and the family in the house wonder if they 'can stay on the truck permanently'. Six ½ years after the earthquakes there are still a few demolitions taking place. This one is a block of council owned flats. Whether the whole complex is being demolished or not I don't know., but here the centre block of three is being demolished.

A photograph of components of a model of the ChristChurch Cathedral being built from LEGO by Sam Butcher. Sam comments "Fixing a large variety of bits that were wrong/annoying/cheating (not purist) about the last model. The new one is set AFTER the Feb 22 earthquake. This newer, and much stronger model is also completely modular for easier transport. Obviously still a WIP, I'm currently waiting for a pretty large bricklink order at the moment, and will probably need to place a couple more after that too. Modules ready to be pinned together".
Detail of damage to the former Princess Cinema in New Brighton. Bricks have fallen from the wall, exposing the interior. The photographer comments, "This is the side view of the back of the old Princess Cinema in New Brighton after the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand on 22 February. The bricks seem to be just about to fall, but stayed in place after several big aftershocks. This building has now been knocked down as it was so dangerous".
