To the right is a cafe that was damaged severely in the earthquake. The front wall of the top storey has crumbled onto the street, crushing a car. Workers seen through a gap between wooden pallets in GapFiller's Pallet Pavillion. The photographer comments, "Though it looks strange and Photoshopped this is a straight shot through pallets painted blue. The Pallet Pavilion is built on the site of the demolished Crowne Plaza Hotel. It was built by volunteers, mainly students and construction engineers over 6 weeks. Here students are being given health and safety instructions before helping out on completing the temporary structure".
Damage to the Hotel Grand Chancellor can be seen in the middle. At the bottom left is the lift shaft (now fully demolished) of the CTV building which claimed over 100 lives when it collapsed in the earthquake.

Hotel Grand Chancellor - Leaning 1m to the east, demolition will start about mid June and is expected to take 10 months to complete at a cost of approx NZ$10m. It will be the biggest & tallest demolition project in New Zealand.
